Super Moon Fishing with the Kids
Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 5:58PM
I took the kids back to Jinji Hu Fishing Pond to take advantage of the "super moon." The bass were spawning and that plus the moon made for a super day of fishing in spite of occasional rain showers. We landed and released about 10 bass, including two caught by my son.

Nice! 10 fish is pretty good and decent sized fish too. Are they all caught with soft plastic worms?
Yes, they were all on plastic worms that were rigged "wacky" style, just a #3 hook through the middle with no weight.
There are a lot of fish in this particular pond, and you could see quite a few actually spawning and others digging out nests near the shore. Spawning and the super moon added up to a strike about every third cast. We might have had more, but keeping an eye on a three- and a four-year-old is a bit of a challenge, even when they aren't swinging around a razor sharp hook.
So the super moon did play a role somewhat. A strike about every third cast, that's awesome.
All those strikes didn't result in landed fish, but it was definitely fun times. I read a tweet that one guy caught more than 48 small bass somewhere in the US with a tenkara fly rod and a single fly during the super moon event Sunday. Now that's awesome fishing action.
