    A tiny bass...

    I

...is better that no bass at all.

This little fellow grabbed my worm Sunday morning in the little pond below Shihmen Reservoir. In an earlier post I speculated that this and the other ponds in the area were old fish farms. I was wrong about that. I have since learned that these old ponds were dug to allow sediment to settle when water was released from the reservoir before it was sent down stream. I spotted many small bass this morning (and two large koi), all about the size of this one. Given time, this should be a nice bass pond.

Here is a link to Google Maps location with GPS coordinates. If you go there, let me know how it goes and send/link pictures of anything you catch. http://bit.ly/jJWUSD

thanks...that's great...i'll check it out...i had planned to go to the reservoir and and was told there's no fishing allowed by a neighbor of mine...can you fish in ximen, baoshan or the one near xindian (called fei-tsway or something)?....i know until yesterday we were in another little dry spell, wonder what the water levels are like?...I also recall hearing you can rent boats at one of the reservoirs-wonder if they require a boating license and if you can in fact fish...

Of the three reservoirs you mentioned, only Baoshan allows (tolerates?) fishing. So if you like fishing larger lakes for wild fish, Hsinchu or other parts south is where you have to head. The pond where this shot was taken is not in Shihmen Reservoir, but about a kilometer below the dam. There are still plenty of places to catch bass in northern Taiwan if you don't mind shelling out NT$300 at a pond. E-mail me if you would like some suggestions.
